Program outcomes

Upon completing the CACE program, graduates will be able to:

  • Incorporate principles of adult education in the planning and development of programs/courses that meet organizational and adult learner needs
  • Design and deliver adult learning experiences that address learners’ needs through the integration of adult learning philosophy and principles into practice
  • Facilitate learning through the application of key philosophies, theories and concepts in adult education
  • Systematically monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and use the data for program improvement, capacity building and accountability
  • Demonstrate professionalism in their practice and promote the philosophy, goals and objectives of adult education

CACE courses can be taken individually for professional development, or be taken collectively to earn the certificate credential. Contact the CACE office to find out if CACE is right for you.

Courses are offered on campus at the University of Victoria on weekdays, weekends, during the summer and online. Learning is accessible to part-time learners outside working hours and courses can be taken individually or applied toward the professional certificate program.

Courses and fees

In order to complete the CACE program, a student needs to complete the four required courses, and a minimum of 4.0 credits of elective coursework (1.0 credits = 39 instructional hours). Elective courses may be either 0.5 or 1.0 credits, depending on the course. Please see the individual course pages for more details.

Admission requirements

It is recommended that participants have completed secondary school and possess a minimum of three years' experience working in adult or continuing education. If you do not meet these requirements but have appropriate and equivalent education and work experience then we still encourage you to apply.
