Biography

Martin Monkman brings a wide range of experience using data science to support evidence-based policy and business management decisions. Building on previous experience analyzing data in a variety of contexts, Martin Monkman first joined BC Stats (British Columbia’s statistics bureau) in 1993. Over the next three decades, Martin has analyzed statistical information about the economic and social conditions of BC and other parts of Canada, and measuring organizational performance (both private and public sector). Martin spent a decade as BC’s Provincial Statistician, and now provides statistical and consulting services as part of the team at MNP.

 

Martin holds both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Geography from the University of Victoria. He is a member of the Statistical Analysis Committee of the Society for American Baseball Research and the Statistical Society of Canada, and blogs about data science and the analysis of baseball statistics using R, the open-source language and environment for statistical computing and graphics.
