Highlights in the History of Architecture
COURSE
Course description
Learn how history and architecture intersect.
Each session will focus on one historical period and area, including Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, the Byzantine Empire, medieval France, and Renaissance Italy. The course will introduce students to basic architectural systems and will show how these systems correspond to the worldviews of the cultures that produced them.
Classes will include discussions of well-known structures, such as the Parthenon in Athens and the Colosseum in Rome, with each monument contextualized in its own historical moment.
