Which ELC program(s) did you attend?

I attended the Intensive English (ELPI) and University Admission Preparation (UAP) programs.

What made your ELC program special?

I especially loved the activities on Wednesdays and Fridays because they prepared fun activities. Also, those were perfect spaces to make more friends and share laughs

What is the most memorable thing that happened to you as an ELC student?

Meeting my classmates, for sure. When I came back, I could not stop telling my family and friends about all the people that I had met and the experiences they had told me about.

Do you have any favourite memories of Canadian culture?

That I could experience the well-known friendliness of the people. I felt welcomed and in a kind environment where I could make mistakes without feeling embarrassed. This made the experience way more enjoyable.

How did learning with other students from other cultures change how you see the world?

This was something I did not expect, but I learnt new things about the world we live in every day. Conversations with other students are one of the things I value most from my experience. They made me reconsider what I took for granted and opened my eyes to the wonders of other cultures each time I learned something new.

Did studying English with us open any new opportunities for you? What are you doing now?

Definitely. After completing my studies at UVic and doing some self-preparation, I achieved the IELTS score I needed to study a bachelor's degree at an English-speaking university. My next step is to study in the Netherlands.

What's it like living in Victoria?

It was amazing. It felt like being in a movie, with the colourful houses and the amount of nature surrounding you. Every place had its charm and wonders to discover.

Best advice for new students

Prepare yourself for a memorable experience, visit wonderful places (the sunsets on the little mountains are incredible), and maybe miss your family some days.
