Course Series
In recent years, various countries with different historical backgrounds and levels of democratic achievements have experienced what is often referred to as democratic backsliding. This trend includes new democracies and established ones alike, as exemplified by recent developments in the United States, India or Hungary. What unites many of these cases is the playbook used by the aspiring autocrats to erode their countries' democracies and the forms of resistance put in place by different opposition actors. These lectures look into the scholarship and practice of democracy to explore contemporary instances of democratic backsliding and opposition strategies.
